I'm currently running Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30 in my '96 XLT 5.0. This is what Ford calls for, however I've heard some say that 10W-30 or even 15W-40 would be more appropriate for South Florida's hot summers. However, the truck lives in North Florida during the winter where it will occasionally dip below freezing. Any thoughts on what would be the proper weight to use?

Harley,

What you are using is fine for where you are at. Synthetics will help keep operating temps down and keep deposits from building. If you want the best for your Explorer, try AMSOIL. Better protection against wear and you can save yourself time and money.
