OK Ford Motor, It's Now Time To Get Your Act Together!

I called Ford today and they said I had a VIN# assigned to my order this morning! Assigned week of May 9th.

Now I can relax knowing that my vehicle will be built. Not knowing if there was going to be a problem with the Tuxedo Black pigment was an uneasy feeling.

My window sticker said convoy. I asked Seni if that meant truck or train. She said, “About the convoy, I have not seen this differentiate one over the other, it can represent truck or rail.” It ended up being shipped by a truck. I'm stuck in the "in transit" mode with no ETA.

Mine said convoy as well but it is indeed rail first. My dealer pulled up a status report of an explorer they received just to see transit time. I saw it go by rail from Chicago to NY, then changed rails to CT then to Massachusetts where it then goes by convoy.

Just an example of a "convoy" actually coming by rail first.

This seems to be the case, and is what is so frustrating to me.

Vehicles built two weeks ago, have already arrived at dealerships.

Vehicles built two months ago, are still sitting.

I've posted this a few times but will post again since it deals with your exact comment.

Mine was built 3/17 and is still awaiting shipment. I canceled my order on 4/6 and bought the same exact model on 4/7 that another local dealership just got in. Kicker was, this Ex that we just bought, again, same exact model, color, options etc was built on 3/25.

How the heck my Ex is still sitting there when another built a week later was delivered. They should have been on the same rail and convoy..

No reason for this!! And I know there were no return to factories or held for quality checks because I saw the whole tracking system of my Ex at my dealer when I canceled.

I feel for everyone who has their vehicle just sitting there. You will completely forget about this frustration once you set foot in the Ex. It is an amazing vehicle!!!

I think BlwnSmoke hit the nail on the head. For all my vented frustration, my dealer and even Ford Customer Service have done all they can, they are after all using the computerized system to track where our vehicles are. Apart from one agent, who told me i was being "impatient" when asking why it had not shipped in 5 weeks, they have all for the most part done all they can do short of going to Chicago and personally driving the car off the lot.

At the end of the day, and im still waiting for a 3/14 build, I deduct that from the information FCS has told me is that the factory and Ford logistics dropped the ball in getting the vehicle out. I truly believe once they had the quality checks and back log of vehicles sitting in lot (rumored to be in the thousands), they utilized a last in, first out system and a large number of our vehicles from the 3/14 build week (especially earlier in the week from what i see on this and FB boards) became "trapped" on the lots. To me, this is unacceptable for Ford, and quite honestly, my dealer and Customer Service representative feel terrible about this taking so long and not being able to give me a valid answer for the delay.

And what is the result? We just suck it up or cancel?

It sounds bad, but a I hope the person(s) responsible get fired or at least feel really really bad.

Unfortunately that is the answer.. we suck it up or cancel. I'm sure Ford does feel bad, I'm sure they are scrambling but 6,000 explorers is a ton of vehicles to move. It is a crappy situation for us to be in.

I could alleviate that by one. I would be willing to go to the Chicago plant to pick mine up.

Someone needs to take a camcorder to the Chicago yard and ask to pick up their Ex that has been awaiting shipment for a couple of months. Since the logistics dept only deals with the dealer or FCS agents and the hit is softer since the guilt 'goes away' after they hang up the phone, I wonder what they'd do when irate customers start showing up?

Maybe an Explorer tent city outside the yard? :)

It's funny you say that, I was thinking this morning.. protest outside the plant.. picket signs saying "release my EX"
