Well, the torsion bars are already on the truck. They are components of the front suspension. Get under your truck and look at each lower control arm (the big steel A-shaped part coming from the bottom of the front wheels). Coming from each of the control arm and going toward the rear of the truck, you'll see long round bars. These are your torsion bars. Now follow them toward the rear to where they mount into the crossmember on the frame. If you look closely, (with your head directly under the mount), you'll see a small bolt sticking down from the mount. It should have a lot of threads showing. This is the torsion bar adjustment bolt. There is another one just like it on the other torsion bar mount. To raise the ride height, simply tighten these bolts. Here is the procedure: www.explorer4x4.com/torsionbars.html.

The way the torsion bars work is that they are essentially bars loaded in torsion (twisting load). The bar's resistance to be twisted creates a reactive load and provides enough force to suspend the truck's weight, just like a spring. When you tighten the adjustment bolts, you are "twisting" the bar more, which creates a larger reactive force, which lifts the truck. Hence our term "torsion twist."

You might also want to run a search on "torsion twist" or "torsion bars." You'll find plenty of info. Hope this helps!

Thank You

Yes it helps thanks alot

No problem, happy to help.

Hey have any pic

Alright some more Qs how many bars are there under the car. and do you have any pics

There are 2 torsion bars under there...one for each front wheel, since each is independently suspended. As far as pictures go...this one is OK (Thanks to Todd Curtis)

Dead Link Removed

Keep in mind that this truck has been lifted, so yours will not look exactly like that, but you can clearly see the 2 long slender bars extending from the brackets on the cross member to the lower control arms in the picture.

Hey ok

Alright i see it now. Do the stock ones have that screw that you adjust?

Yep, all Explorers with torsion bars have the adjustment bolts I talked about.
