So after going out on a trip to Truckheven with some of the guys here I am looking to do the conversion to 4wheel drive in my sport, I have a manual 5 speed and want to keep it manual... so I found a 5 speed and T-case for a good deal but the T-Case is electric and was trying to find out if you can make it a Manual T-Case or should I keep looking?

Recently, I saw someone was selling a trans/doubler/transfer case.. and the transfer case was electric, but setup to not use the computer anymore.. I don't remember who it was.. FatCat stands out, but I'm not sure..

That tells me it can be done (electric, w/out all the extra electric stuff)..

Also, whats your goal.. yours a 2nd Gen X, IIRc, so I doubt your going to go 4x4 2nd gen style (torsion bars, dana 35 IFS etc).. or are you?

well looking at Spas's Cpt. Morgan and so others I really want to go SAS with coilovers. manual t-case and trans and yes it was Fat-Cat I just looked at the for sale area and he had wired the electric t-case to run out side the comp. this will not be done for some time (I dont have a welder or garage to work in wright now) but I think I will start getting all the parts together now and keep looking at how I want to put them in..... and THANKS again for the ride in the truck out there Maniak

You could make it a manual but it will take some ingenuity. Once you get the case, pop the shift motor off and let your imagination flowwww.

But if I were you, I'd go with the manual so you dont have to mess with the electric part. I know it may cost a little more green, but you'll do less work in the long run.

SO SAD Fat-Cat's cutting up that sweet X for a buggy:( makes me wish I looked up the for sale area about a month ago... I understand the need to just keep going on a project until you are happy though:D

Also, there's a thread or two from a couple years ago, talking about how the McNiels turned an elec T-case into a manual with a simple twist knob mechanism, which I still hope to someday do to mine.

SWEET well I just got my Manual T-Case wb1354 for $250:D now I just need the Trans, thanks for the info guys I'm sure as I go forward I will need a lot more... I will still need linkage and is there another cross bar for the t-case or just the one for the Trans?

The transfer case doesnt use its own cross member, it is supported 100% via the transmission.

By the way, I know you're starting off slow but I think its time you start looking for a way to weld stuff -- either a friend or find a garage. Cauz your life is going to depend on your welds so now would be a good time to start practicing if you're planning to do the welds yourself.

great advise IZ I have some welding ex. but its been along time, yeah finding a garage that is not going to kill the pocket book is going to be hard.....I think I would be more proud of it when its done to if I can do some of it my self. so far all the work except re-building the rear end I have done myself and its a good start but if SAS is going to happen in this project the most of those kinds of welds and stuff is beyond me

There are lots of guys running around with welders on the back of their trucks. When it comes time for welding, have everything ready to go and call someone. I'll bet you can find another fellow enthusiast who will treat you right. Ask around the car clubs, parts houses, and welding supply stores. You might even find someone to do it for beer!

OK so I just ordered a 4wd ex. and the output shaft so all together I am at $375 :D for the parts, now I just need to start the hole list of parts for a SAS and start picking them up one at a time..... THIS COULD TAKE SOME TIME....

another ? is (I don't have the T-Case yet) what is the shift pattern 2H-4H-4L? on the manual

Sweet

OK so I got the T-Case rear housing and the output shaft all in the mail last week:D anyone know were I can get the linkage and shifter for the T-Case any help would be great thanks

Pattern is usually 2HI-4HI-N-4L

As for the shifter, you can try looking for one from a 1354 but they are rare, I used one from a 1350 -- the only thing that doesnt line up is one hole that mounts it to the transmission, but you enlarge this hole to make it fit.

thanks IZ good info yeah I could not find one for the 1354, lol I just ran into your brother at home depot on Mon. there is no mistaking the sammy going down the road, that thing is awesome.

Oh yeah he told me you chased him down :)

wow, its been along time... no its not yet. Dec 23 my older sister past away and left three boys 13, 11 and 5 years old... after that I moved in with my brother in law and the boys to help out, and have not got a lot of work done on it lately.. then I blow my knee out around the first of the month and just had surgery on it on Friday so its been a long few months.. I have a welder now and have been practicing a lot.. but the money to get the front axle and all the parts are just out of my reach right now... I have the T-Case out put shaft and new rear housing but no other parts.. and even now that I have all most a full metal shop in tools at my brother in laws house in Simi Valley there is just no room to work on it...
