Well, got the VMV replaced with a new unit, and the explorer still has the same problem. I start from a stop and she wont come out of 1st. So I'll let it go to about 3-4k then I'll let off the gas and pump it, it will rev freely a couple of times, then it will finally shift. I have no clue what to look at next. Please someone gimme something else to go on. Thanks in advance!

A shop probably. That's really strange.

From what you are describing, the next step is to replace the governer. The governer controls the 1-2 shift on the tranny. Sometimes the weight gets stuck and the governer won't work properly. It is located inside of the extension housing. Do a search of the forums and you will find a step by step process on how to replace this item. If after replacing the governer the problem still persists then it could be the VB, or something internally failing in the transmission. Hope this helps :)

Thanks. Governor will be the next thing on my list
