Hi Gang

I have a 1993 Ford Explorer, and one of the rear hatch supports broke, the one on the door. Does any one know if there is any call back things still floating around about this. And are there any good repairs procedures that any one has come up with about this. Would it be a good idea to contact the nearest Ford dealer, and see what they say.? I might have an access to a 110V welder. I think this is the best thing to repair it with. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks......Gunny

I have the rear gate supports if you need em, are you needing the hydraulic lifters or the hinges?

HI... Thanks, I have every thing, all that happened was the welds broke loose. Do you know if they changed anything, the design or the way they mount up.? I am asssuming the only good way to repair them is to reweld them. I am assuming too that the lifters are ok, at least they were before the weld broke loose. The one on the right side is the one that broke, (passenger side) the one on the left looks ok.

Thanks.......Gunny

seems like there was a recall out about these at one time some thing about the welds breaking loose you might want to check with your local stealership

Hi...Ya I think I will do that. Worth a try any way. What can they say, no ha ha ha ha I know this is a 1993, but what the hack. It worked with the tire deal so why not this.

I guess there is no real fix, outside of welding it back. I have a small Mig, that should do it. I will first see what and if they will do anything about it.

Thanks and take care.......Gunny

Oh I forgot to mention, I lost a few teeth over this. When it happened, I was just pushing it up thinking like normal it would go up by itself, but instead it came down and caught me with my mouth open hit me on the top of my head, and slammed my mouth shut breaking some teeth. So after some bucks getting this and some other dental work done, I am as good as new.

Thanks........Gunny

Yes, there was a notice sent out by Ford to check the welds. They will fix it if the welds fail.

Have you searched the TSBs?

I have a 94, and took it in when they mailed me a recall notice (many years ago). They RIVITED, not welded, the brackets in place. This was done before anything broke.

Sorry about your teeth, probably not even worth the lawyer fees to sue...

I had the same problem (but without the smashed teeth!) and took it to my muffler guy, who welded it up good. It's pretty thin metal up there where it breaks.
I saw the Ford fix, and wasn't impressed with it.
