OME 2" Springs - Any word yet?

Hey Tom, I have always had this question, and now that you have done the OME lift, I figured I would ask you. Do you think that you would be able to run 33x10.5's on your truck now that you have done the lift? Rick (ExplorGM) is running 33's and the question has always popped up in my mind, especially after originally seeing his truck with the 33's. What is your opinion? I am thinking about having a second set of 33 inch Mud Terrains for offroad, if I disconnected the sway bars, do you think they would be fine, would they work without the swaybars disconnected? I think I am starting to ramble now, so whatever detailed response you can give will be much appreciated! Thanks.

I think 33's would fit in the back, but you'd have to see what Gerald did to get them up front. I beleive he did a body lift and moved his front bumper forward about an inch, along with some trimming on his running boards at the front wheel wells. Although my front sits a little over an inch higher than before, the clearance problem is in front of and behind the front tire, not above. You'd have to accomodate for turning the wheels as well as how it would fit with the spring under full compression.

That being said, I'm pretty happy with the 32" tires myself.

I didn't disconnect the sway bars at Moab, though I should have. But, I did have the front end all the way to the stops without rubbing. I'm not sure how the 33's would do, but hopefully, Gerald can answer.

Tim,
I posted some clearance pictures on my page so that others can see just how much room there is left with the 33s and the 32s. Your fenders might be different, but with the lift my tires don't rub front or back at this point. I cut a small 1/2" piece off the back of the front fender flare to eliminate that rubbing. Its inside the fenderwell so you can't really see the modification.My biggest problem is with the rubbing at full compression at the top of the front fenderwells. It takes a pretty good impact to get it to rub, but when I crank up the "B" bars all the way it stops. I have a body lift (still in the box...) of 2" that should correct the problem once and for all.

so tell me guys, do u think the OME lift will fit a 99 4x2 xlt 4 dor? anyone tried it yet? i thought i was stuck forever wititng for someone to come up with a lift for us 2 wheelers. is it a pretty simple job.. i mean no heavy duty cutting into the frame and welding. is it just unhook the old and install the new? by the way, a stupid question, where is the torsion bar. i keep on hearing u guys talk about it. twisting the torsion bar??? u take it our and twist it like u twist a coat hanger? or u turn the nuts and bolts to twist it? thanks for your kind teachings.

I just ordered mine today. Has everyone been using the bushings from the old springs or are you buying new ones. I would like to get poly bushings. Does anyone know who makes them.

Hi Keith,
OME suggests that you use the stock bushings, because it would make the springs too stiff. I went ahead and bought new spring bushings ($74.00), a Ford only part. You can also have a machine shop press the old ones out and put them in the OME's. The spring bushings have to be pressed in. I have not heard of any company that makes the spring bushings for the Explorer.

The OME's will fit your 2wd Explorer also. Yes it's take off the old springs(one at a time), put on the new OME springs. Got to this link Torsion Bar Lift for instructions on how to do the lift. Hope this helps
