I'm new to off roading and I'm getting ready to go on a trip in a few weeks. I've noticed in some of the pics from other outings that everyone had a flag on there truck. I think I know the answer to most of my questions but wanted to ask anyhow.

What is the purpose?

Is this for large groups, anyone going off road or certain terrain?

Is there a certain color, size or hight?

sorry if these are newbe questions but everybody's got to start somewhare.

The flags are required by some offroad parks for safety reasons - so you can see that a vehicle is on the other side of the hill you're about to climb. I've had to fly them at Oceano Dunes in CA, at Paragon in PA, and the Badlands in IN. I think the Superlift ORV in AR requires them too. The certain color size and height is whatever that park says it has to be in its rules :) ~ usually a bright color like blaze/hunter orange and the height is well above the vehicle.

Flag usage at other trails is almost nonexistent unless a vehicle flies one it got from one of those offroad parks.

I had never ran a flag untill last year and i really like running with them. You can see where everyone is and if they are on the front they help push brush and others products away from the window.

It is also a good idea to turn your headlights on when offroading, esspecially in dusty, foggy, rainy or snowy conditions.
