One more airbox concern?

Well, before I modify my airbox, I am wondering how often people are having to clean their K & N filters? I usually only clean mine about every six months, but does having an airbox full of holes harder on the air filter? My explorer hits about every mud hole that it can find, and somehow has made it through all of them (I know, I know, "come follow me, I'll get you stuck")

Just wondering, but anyway, I'm cutting into the airbox tomorrow.

Randy-What I did was purchase a spare from a poster here for $25. This way I always have a clean one ready to pop in. I replace mine once a year whether it needs to be changed or not. I apologize for not knowing about the mud situation because I never got mud up there, but the was a member who cut holes out of the airbox and siliconed a mesh screen over the holes. This might prevent at least some of the junk from gettin in to your airbox. Hope this helps.

Those drop-in K&N air filter as what they say is supposed to be cleaned every 50,000 to 100,000 miles but i never wait for that. I too has a replacement ready anytime i need it. Personally I cleaned it every 6,000 miles. Dead Link Removed
