Uh I dont mean to sound too stupid, but while working on the rear suspension last weekend I jacked up the rear and let the whole rear axle droop completely..I had the parking brake engaged while doing this, and when I lowered the rear back down, I heard a big "pop"...now my parking brake doesnt engage enough to keep the truck from rolling. Did I stretch my cable? or something less.like messed with the adjusters in the drums? Can I just get my tension back by slamming on the brakes a few times and the adjusters will take care of it? I checked the cables and the brake control and all looks good....
Any recommendations or experience would be appreciated.

You might have stretched it. You might also have pulled one of the stops out of the frame along the cable.Did you try tightening up on the adjuster to see if it grabs?? If not, jack the back of the vehicle up and have someone spin a wheel while you pull down on the cable. If it stops the wheel, you may just need to tighten down the adjuster. Also have someone step on the pedal while you watch the cable to make sure it actually moves when you apply the brake. If it doesn't, you may have pulled the end off the cable up in the pedal unit. Slamming the brakes on won't help if the cable stretched.

BTW if you do end up with part of the system broken, I have a good one in my wrecked '92 Sport

eh

neat thing about the 93-94s (and 95+ too I believe) is they have non-adjustable self-adjusting parking brakes.

I looked in the repair manual and see the 91-92s and Rangers have that adjuster but mine doesnt. I guess I'll see what a new middle cable costs...

What stops would I have pulled? I dont see anything other than some points where the cable goes through...

Hard to believe the cable would stretch that much and now not work at all..not good to use your parking brake at full flex on the trail either I guess? I've always thought it was handy to use to save the fancy gas/brake/clutch footwork on steep trails.
