How would I go about doin an open to limited slip conversion? Could I buy a limited slip axel from an explorer from the junkyard and simply replace the one on there now? I hate the open diff. its almost useless on the trail. How much would this cost?

BTW - No, I dont want lockers, or anything else thats extra $$$....the ol ford limited slip would do.

Yes, a 4door diff will work.

Unless you swap the entire axle assembly though, this is still a professional job as the carrier needs to be changed and the gears set-up. If you are going that route instead of the axle swap it's better to go ahead and do a gear swap (if you were planning on it) and get a better limited slip unit such as the Eaton.

I paid 350 for a used diff out of a 99. check out www.car-part.com you should be able to find something there.

~$350 parts + install (diff work is usually $200-350 per axle). Again, if you're planning on a gear swap, do it at the same time.
