I found this rig but the miles are high. The body is fantastic with no rust. Would anyone gamble at 1400? Also, I have a 2000 rusty limited with 110,000 on the clock. Would it be a huge ordeal to put the engine and tranny from the 2000 into this 1999? Thanks.

Which engine? I assume it has the 5.0 awd? if so check to make sure it is awd and that the front drive shaft has not been removed. check the fluids to see if their full and somewhat clean. check the front end sway bar end links upper and lower ball joints.. and as long as everything checks out then i wouldnt mind buying it. still I think the price is a little high for the miles. i can get a similar one for around 1800 with between 100k and 150k miles.
if its the v-6 i would pass. but i have no actual experience with wither of the v6's...

that's not so many miles for a V8. two of my three V8's are pushing 200k and the 3rd is not that far behind at 170k. if you can get a Limited for $1400, I'd buy it and as it's a southern truck, rust shouldn't be a problem. if you recall I just paid $1400 for my '97 Sport with 213k on it (with rebuilt engine/trans). if it came down to it, I think it should be fairly easy to swap the 2000 parts into a '99, but it's probably easily got another 100k left in it.

heck, just about anything that runs and drives is worth $1400, especially with new tires.
figure the tires are worth $400, scrap value for the vehicle $400, so that's a $600 gamble not considering parts you could sell or use off it if it blows up the day after you buy it. I know you're no stranger to these vehicles. check it out and buy it before someone else does.

Even though it's from Texas... Still check the rear shackles, rear differential brake line and for front CV axle leaks.

That is one nice lookin explorer!

I bought it about an hour ago for 1300 cash. It's going to be my son's first vehicle. He has good grades and a job so I think he's earned it. Plus, every time he leaves with my 97 I get an anxiety attack. And to think my first vehicle was an AMC Gremlin, lol......

Bought right. You could always flip it for what you bought it for if you discover later it's a money pit...

I brought it home tonight and it ran fantastic. It got 19.5 on a 70 mile ride on the scan gauge. Better than I expected. The guy even threw in a weeks warranty, lol. I sent him pics of my other ones and he saw how much I like them and he's been a class act. I'll post some pics tomorrow for everyone. The thing is spotless and not so much as a ding anywhere.

I put on new moog sway bar links, cleaned the calipers and changed the pads and drained the rear axle and put it new synthetic fluid. I'll get it washed and put up some pics tomorrow. Want to thank Koda for all my stupid questions. I've never owned a 2wd anything and I felt foolish after about ten min looking for the cap for the front diff fill, lol. Somehow my son ended up with the 97 and I have this one, lol. This will be fun for a summer rig but I need to find another AWD by winter. That's when the other boy turns driving age. I think my neighbors think I'm nuts with 4 2nd gen Explorers in the driveway.

I got a few pics today for the ins and thought I'd share them.....

I have the same one and colorway + year. You should put some pics of the interior up!

looks nice.

Brother amos, that was a good deal, at least it sure looks like a million bucks from the outside.

The carpet needs some cleaning done on the inside but the seats, headliner and dash are in great shape. I have the ds rear door skin off to put another motor in. The previous owner took it out and left me the parts in a bag but I have another one in my 97 parts rig. The next thing is to do something about that saggy ass look in the back. It's got that puny 4 leaf spring set up and I don't know if coil overs will bring it up at all, and I've never been fond of air shocks. The mufflers good but I can't stand that quiet sound so I'll have to get a cat back and a grill guard for all the deer that run around the roads here. And I have to find a limited emblem for the pass side.
