I really don't want to scrap my 1994 XLT 4X4 since it spent most of its life in Nevada so little surface rust, very good interior, but no forward gears. I can't rebuild the tranny myself so would either have to buy a junk yard one or have someone rebuild it. I've tried to market it for $2500 because it has custom wheels, All terrain TAs, brush guard, Alteza lights, bright eyes, suspension upgrades, etc. 4X4 works and I can't see any pickup with 4X4 that isn't rusted away going for less than $2500. So I am seeking opinions from those who appreciate Gen 1s.

I found an entire donor truck with a working trans. Kept the trans, parted out the other good stuff, and scrapped the rest. I actually profitted from selling parts from the donor truck and I got a working trans out of it. If you care about your truck enough to repair it, then buying a donor truck is a good option.

Are you saying you would rather scrap than sell it for less than 2500?

I would say do what Explorin'VA said and get a donor truck.

After I wrecked my completely stock Explorer and I still decided to get a donor truck and fix it rather than scrapping it. Then I took what I needed, plus some, sold the motor and some other parts and scrapped it. I made some profits as well.

In all, I say get a transmission/whole parts truck and fix it. Then sell it if you really don't want it.

Selling 101, you will never, ever get back what you put into aftermarket upgrades. Its a 1994 vehicle that doesn't drive. It will be a LOOONG time before someone gives you $2500 for it. I agree, find a donor truck. You could even get the M5OD manual if you want.
