Hello! My battery just died last night (I didn't even leave the lights on!) And I was wondering if anyone knew what the original batteries were that they put in '94 Explorers. Mine was built December 1993 if that helps. The dead battery I got here is a Mega Torque 85 and says 65-85 850 CCA/120 RC (the date punchies are not punched out.) If this is the original battery, then it's okay that it died because it's a while over 7 years old. If it is a replacement battery, then something went wrong! Thanks for your knowledge!

When you put the new battery in check the alternator. Itf it went bad it could take out the battery. Once the truck is started remove one battery cable if the truch dies, the alternator is bad. (the battery is only used to start the truck, once it's started the alt. keeps it running.

something like this just happened to me the other day. a little while ago my alarm went crazy, so i disconnected the battery and reconnected it again to reset the alarm. twice this past week, my truck wouldn't start because it had no power for some reason. then all of a sudden it started again. the second time it happened, i opened up the hood and noticed that the cables were loose. so i disconnected both cables, cleaned them and the posts. with a terminal cleaner and tightened them up. no more problems. this problem was funny because i had a new problem. i hope this helps.

Nope, not an original battery. Ford puts Motorcraft batteries in all their cars. Just because this one died doesn't necessarily mean that something is wrong. Your truck is now seven years old. It's entirely conceivable that the original one died after three years, and now this one is gone after four. A little on the quick side, but it happens. However, after putting in a replacement battery, get your alternater bench tested. Most places will do this for free, and it will give you peace of mind.

As for a replacement, the best, of course, are the Optimas, but they're a little on the expensive side. The Interstate Megatron is a great battery, as is (suprisingly) the OEM Ford Motorcraft battery.

Mike,

Removing the battery cable while the truck is running to see if you have a possiable alternator problem. Is alot easier than removing the alternator and bringing it to a shop, don't you think ?

I have not needed to test the X alt. yet but on two other cars Auto Zone was able to test the alt. on the veh. They just wheeled out a test thingie & hooked it up. No muss, no fuss and best of all no charge.
