Well how does she run? Did you feel the difference? Delta cams is in Tacoma Washinton and I am heading there(Bremerton) for work today. I might just go ahead and get it(P-rods) done while Im there.

Cant says as of yet. I haven't been able to drive it. I have to get plates for it this week. It has a noticeably deeper rumble at idle. We'll see what she does on the street. I have some other plans too as far as intakes and such go. I'm thinking about doing a custom intake and down the road making some headers for it. I have to learn how to weld. So many ideas its going to take trial and error to figure it all out.

You dont need no stinken plates. Just pull one off one of your other cars. There is no way I could just sit around with a new toy installed in my truck. Your a better man than me. LOL

Not a better man. Just dont like getting pulled over. My wife would kill me (almost literally). Cause the truck would probably get impounded. "Sigh" so I wait until tomorrow. I'm going to run premium for the first tank since its sat for so long.

I just got back from lunch. While I was eating I overheard two guys talking about how one of them just got his license back after three years. I guess he liked to drive with fictious plates, that is moving plates from one vehicle to another, then he blew off traffic school so they pulled his license... Then he got busted for driving without a license... He finally decided to ride a bicycle until his license was clear.

Funny... I used to know some people like that. Dont hang out with them anymore for a reason.

just to get things clear about what I need for the 410 cam swap.

Engine: 4.0 OHV 1996 explorer

Compcam cam #49-410-8 ~$250
Smithbro's pushrods (5.525) ~$100
Deltacam Refresh kit ~$100
Compcam Springs #988-12 ~$80
Crane Spring retainers #99947012 ~$50

Do I need all these parts? Ohh, my truck has 145,000 miles on it.
help me out before i make another foolish purchase.

You don't need the springs and retainers with the 410, just the 422.

Just get the pushrods from delta cams, with their refresh kit.

Bump

Bump

So I have ordered the following:
Comp Cam 49-422-8
Dual valve springs from comp cams 988-12
Alabama fully dressed heads
deltacams rocker bare arms
smith bros push rods 5.525"

but I also saw that Creager recommended: rocker spacers to replace springs on rocker-arms
Is this needed? I didn't see anyone list it above.

Also "Crane Spring retainers #99947012 ~$50" was mentioned above, are they needed?

umm so if I get the 410 it will basically go in without any major mods to anything else. I would need the longer pushrods and this refresh kit.... Whats the refresh kit for and whats in it?

What exactly are the Crane retainers? I may need them.

The Crane retainers are not needed with the 410, only the 422. I bought a set, not realizing that, when I installed my 410. So, if anyone is getting a 422 and wants some brand new Crane retainers for cheaper then you can buy them, let me know.
bump...
little x you still have these or what?

I read the heads have to be machined for these to fit, are they definately necessary? When I called Comp Cam they said nothing about needing these. Then again they didn't say anything about the push rods either...

ive read this entire thread but i would like to ask for a final say that the 422 is the "biggest" cam i can put in my 4.0 OHV? im gunan yank it outta my lifted ex adn reubuild it with some performance mods and drop it in a ranger.

if yes the 422 is largest i would go with that
what EXACTLY do i need to have done or install to make the cam perform best.

this will be a 150k 4.0 OHV with a full gasket rebuild bottom to top and a ifab cold air and TB spacer. 8mm wires and maybe headers but def a flowmaster

thanks a lot

There is a more aggressive cam, you certainly won't pass emissions with it though.
