Outside temp display

One of the issues I'm having with my '03 Explorer Sport XLT is, the display that shows the outside temp and compass heading doesn't come on under normal situations. I find that if I smack the... stuffing out of it, it will come on for about 3-4 seconds and fade out again. Sounds like a bad board or connection up there to me. Anyone have any other ideas before I rip the display console off and tear into it? So far no other electrical issues (aside from an airbag 24 code that showed up at the exact same time)

Thanks, I'll look into that, With any luck that will be one problem solved. Now I just gotta get the air bag problem taken care of.

That was it. Fixed and now I don't need someone to tell me where to go, as I can see my compass now.
