Hi people (just being politically correct here), this is my 2nd X, my 1st was a 98 XLT & this one is a 2000 XLT. The 98 had no probs with air-vent/conditioner but the 2000 has a bit of one. When I have vent only on, as in feet or dash with heater control off the air is still uncomfortably warm :frustrate (in 30deg cel. + heat that is), is this a common problem?
Thanks :biggthump:australia

all you have to do to fix that is turn down the temp, move it till it is just the right temp

if you leave it on hot setting that is what comes out,, if it is at cold it comes out cold,,

That is with it all the way down on the blue, come on I'm not that stupid, most times anyway :hammer: (depends if your talking to the mrs or how many ales though!!! :D) & it is a bloody hot summer at the moment but in the evening or just local driving I prefer not to use the air-con..

hmmmm sorry mate,, good on ya for not wasting the gas for the air conditioning all the time,,
if that is all the way down to the blue, there really isn't much more you can do,, i had a similar problem last summer here too, too hot,, i just left the windows down ,,, alot,, and put it on defrost or off, it seems to help,, mine has an off ,, does yours ?

Yeah, I suppose I'll just have to do that, bummer, but its still strange my old 98 wasn't like that. Mine was the 3rd last one built in the States for R/H drive export apparently, so everythings the same as ones over there except R/H drive.

p.s. engine temp is fine, well within the normal parameters. Well thats my big word for the day.
Anyway thanks Corkey

The way this system works is the air...whether recirculated or not...a/c on or not...goes through the a/c evaporator first, then the heater core depending on the temp selected. If you have it all the way cool, and the air is still hot, then there are two issues I would look at. With the temp knob all the way cool, it should close the blend door completely off the heater core. This way you get no heated air. Then, look under the hood and see if you have a coolant shut off valve by the heater core fittings. If so, that should shut off hot coolant to the heater core unless "heat" is selected. I've heard some come without this valve...although all I've seen have it. Anyway, even if that valve fails, the blend door should stop air from going through the core if it's operating correctly.

Thanks I'll have a look.
Is there a diagram in the Haynes manual do you know?
