the lights that come on in the dash when you set cruse(spelling) and turn off overdrive work when the parking lights and headlights are off but when i turn them on the o/d and cruse lights will go out and wont come back on until i turn off my lights, any idea what could cause this?

hello fellow DC-metropolitan area dweller..

First off, are all of the other instruments/guages working properly?

If so, and I'm not TOO sure about this, but im leaning towards an electrical short somewhere.. causing the electricity to travel the path of least resistance.. which are your headlights when they are in the ON position.. but when they are off, then that path is "cut" or "open" and so the only other way is to go to the Cruise light and/or O/D OFF light.

You might have to remove your dash to diagnose this problem.. did you smell any funky (like 1970s funky) smell inside your explorer lately? i ask cauz overheated/burnt wires can cause electrical shorts over other wires.

never gave any smells, been like that since i bought the truck a few months ago, they work when the outside and dash lights are off, but as soon as the dash lights come on the o/d and cruse lights go off but everything still works normally, just no lights, the only other dash lights that dont work are the ones on the right side of the radio, and it looks like one bulb may be out at the top of the speedo.

on a side note, are there any good places to wheel in this area, im looking for free and mild enough for a 2" lift truck, but still chalanging(spell)
