1994 Explorer XLT 4X4
I have 1994 XLT 4X4 with AT. The transmission shifts just fine, but will not shift into OD. I realize this is probably a sensor issue, how hard is this to replace. I am looking to sell the vehicle and I want it right for whomever I sell it to. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction?

I had the same problem it was the Mass air sensor! Buy a code scanner for ford cars and trucks...there like 30$.. put the new one in solved the problem.. It took me like 15 mins to replace it VERY Easy!!!

I have 94 Ltd.

If you think it has thrown a code, most Autozones will scan them for free. Call ahead to confirm.

Yeah it has a code I forgot it.....

If you lucky, the code is for either the 3/4 or the od solenoid. Get the code again to be sure. If it is one of those it is pretty easy to replace.. You drop the VB, replace the solenoid and put it backtogether (thats a simplified explanation)..

AutoZone only reads codes for 96-up vehicles with OBD-II. You have an EEC-IV system. It could be the TPS, VSS, BOO switch or the internal wiring harness. You could check your solenoids with an ohm meter. They should be 25-40 ohms. You have 2 solenoids. One is the 3-4 shift, and the other is the TCC.

most autozones should be able to read OBD 1 codes as well. it just depends on if anyone there knows how. i should know unfortunately i work for AZ.

I had a previous questoin about OD issues. Wasn't throwing a code, but I replaced the TCC and 3-4 shift solenoid. Still no OD. Not going to stick much more money into it any other ideas?

Without a code it is a wild guess. With a code I can try and help. I am a bad guesser.
