Aerostar 95 Bauer edition
Hello.

So i have my Ford Aerostar 95 XTL E4WD V6 4.0L.

My overdrive have stopped working ... it started a while ago, it sometimes wanted to in to overdrive at 70 km/h and sometimes not...

Then i changed my transmission filter and oil, and it still only wanted to go in to overdrive from time to time..

Now it TOTALLY stopped working, what can it be ?

Nice Aerostar, I liked those. What transmission is in those, I never knew? I'd bet it's time for a rebuild, but I'm sure there are a few things which can help in any case, that don't have to have the trans out. A VB kit and new accumulators/springs, and Sonnax upgrades, those are all good for any automatic. Most trans issues initiate in the control parts, the VB etc. I like to upgrade or service all of those parts every time I buy a new vehicle, before an issue arises. The same things will benefit any trans, just bought, old, or just before or after a rebuild. They are all parts which help, and may or may not be done by a shop rebuild.

The aerostar used the A4LD transmission in 95.

1995 was the last year for the A4LD but it was only used in the Aerostar at the time. Ford started to install the 4R55E in the Explorer during 1995 & 1996. A lack of overdrive could be caused by several things such as faulty wiring going to the 3/4 solenoid, the solenoid, worn TPS, out of spec coolant sensor or a dirty MAF sensor. Do you have any computer codes?

I dont have any computer codes, but would love to be able to read them

The A4LD has many things which can be done to help it, including adjusting the bands. I'd begin with the codes if it has any, and figure on what the mileage is, adjust the bands, replace solenoids, VB kit etc. If you stop driving it there's a chance some things can be done to keep it going, before requiring a rebuild. Keep driving it, and a rebuild will be a must.

Alright i just bout the code reader, and now gotta wait and see what it sais.. I live in Denmark, soo about 14 days then i have it.
