The overhead compass / thermometer display in my '99 XLT stopped working a couple of days ago. It just died, worked at lunchtime didn't work at the end of the day - pressing "mode" doesn't fix it.

From what I understand, this is a fairly common occurrence (like the rear wiper and the radio display). Is there any way to fix the unit (like the radio display) - or do I just need to get a new compass unit?

Thanks for your help.

Probably needs to be replaced. The system consists of a fuse, air temp sensor and the overhead console.

even the dry joints on the radio can be fixed - if you are good at soldering. Unless its a chip at fault - then you are SOL.

So check your fuses first............

just stick a thermometer on the window..
