Well my beloved explorer that has never missed a beat soared intot the red last night plenty of coolant does anyone know of a way of checking the water pump I am trying to get a thermostat but its about a 3 day wait.
This high temp also semed to send the transmission into a world of its own.

Also does anyone know of a good explorer mechanic as most garages just seems lost.
I'm from Redditch which is just south of birmingham

Cheers Nathan

Chances are its the stat. They are known to fail. For now just pop it out and run without, till the new one turns up. If you run the car with the rad cover off and no stat then you will see the water flow. This tells you that the pump is working, Unless you have sprung a leak somewhere.:D

Agree with the above. Extremely likely to be the thermostat. I bought mine direct from the USA from Rock Auto (I think). It was here in 3 days and at half the price from Ford. The Motorcraft stat had travelled around a bit as it was made in Germany, sent to the US and then shipped back across the pond to me...
Be aware that your Ex will run very cold according to the temp guage without the stat in place. Better than boiling it's 'nads off, though....
