Recently the temp gauge on my Mountaineer will spike up temporarily, the warning light comes on, then the gauge immediately drops back to normal and the light goes off. This has occurred twice in the last two weeks.

I haven't experienced any smoke or drivability issues. I'm thinking it may just be a stuck thermostat. Has anybody else experienced this? Anything else to check?

You have a hole in your radiator. HUGE post on the 06's having that problem. Does exactly what you say it does.

I had an overheating problem in my 06 Explorer. It turned out to be a stuck thermostat. You might also want to check your fan clutch too.

yea thats true, you never mentioned if you heard the fan spin up after the warning light comes on

Thanks. Regarding the fan, I'll have to listen a little closer next time it happens.

Sounds like the same symptoms. Leaking in the same spot as the pictures in the link above. What is the "fix" for the loud fan?

The fix for the loud fan is to repace the radiator. It spins up to cool the motor because it is low on coolant(usually). Nothing wrong with your fan it's just one of the symptoms. Check your coolant levels for starters.

FFFAACKKK!!! Called Livermore and Fremont Ford/Lincoln/Mercury $1,100 to replace the radiator and reprogram the PCM per TSB 09-8-1

Anybody found the best place to buy a replacement radiator (TSB states the replacement part number is 6L2Z-8005-AD)?

I would guess that 80% is labor? might be best to do it yourself if you can. Run up to Oregon and buy it without sales tax

Definitely going to go that route, though I'll still have to pay for the PCM re-flash $130.....talk about a fvcking ripoff.

Maybe it will work fine without that. Hopefully for your sake
