My check engine light just came on yesterday. When I got it checked it said it was a problem with the egr sensor not detecting enough flow. I had replaced the egr line due to it leaking and have noticed nothing leaking since. I also replaced the egr valve gaket. The only other symptom is that the engine hesitates. I have a 98 explorer xlt 5.0l v8.

Update: I have noticed since the light came on that it takes a little longer for it to start after turning the key.

Update: I am able to test the voltage, but I don`t know what the voltage is supposed to be. When I do a google search I get mixed results. Could anyone help me out?

Update: I decided to take it to an auto shop and have them check it out. One of the nipples on the egr control solenoid was broken, and that was causing the issue.

I'm sure you hate throwing parts at the thing , but you already replaced the line and gasket.
I would replace the egr valve.

We tested the valve when we replaced the gasket and it worked fine.

Could also be the DPFE sensor, or one that I doubt, the egr solenoid sensor.

Well I`m not hearing the pinging and knocking associated with the solenoid going bad. I think it is the DPFE sensor, but I don`t know how to test it.

If you have the aluminum DPFE sensor, I'd just replace it. The design was bad, failure is inevitable, and IIRC the new, redesigned part goes for $30-$40.

Good to know, thankyou.
