Have a 2000 Ranger with the 5R55E. 3 Days ago tranny started dropping into what seemed to be "N" while driving down the road. Had codes pulled today and got P0734 which indicates a improper gear ratio in 4th gear. I also lost reverse as well. When I put truck into OD it feels like it shifts into gear for a moment and then back out. When going to R it will actually move the truck a foot or so before it goes wherever it goes. The tranny was just recently rebuilt to fix a 2-3 flare and fix a broken R band. The VB was replaced with a Phoenix reman, the torque converter was rebuilt, and all the clutch packs are brand new with new seals and gaskets, a new filter and all new Mercron V... It has less then 5,000 miles on the rebuild, about 2 1/2 months ago. HELP!! what happend and what can I do to fix it? Thanks!

Steve

You might have a warranty on it. Could you go back to the place where you had it rebuilt, or did you rebuild it yourself? Did you check the pressure with a 0-300 PSI gauge? Maybe you might have blown one of your valve body gaskets. Did the rebuilt valve body come with new solenoids? Maybe your EPC solenoid is bad.

THe VB had all new solenoids as well as a new gasket. I was unable to get ahold of the shop that did the rebuild to see what kind of warranty I have on it. I am attempting to find a pressure gauge that I can put on the tranny. I'll keep everyone posted as to the results.
On another note, I thought everyone might find this interesting. The R band was broken. The tab that the servo pushes against broke off and popped a hole through the tranny case. I found this interesting.

Thanks and have a good day.

whoa..... that IS incredible. Time for a new case

I'm working on a picture. Hopefully i'll have it by this weekend. The hole in the case was in a non important area and was easily repaired at a speciality welding shop. They did an incredible job, I can't really tell where the repair is. Thanks all!
