I hate to make my first post a plea for help but I really need some info tonight. Had a local shop install a Superior Shift Correction Kit in my 4r44e and everything seemed fine until I got to about 50 mph. At 50 mph the O/D light starts flashing and the tranny has harsh shifts after coming to a stop. Went back to the shop and got a P0741 TCC System Improper Mechanical Performance Code. They ordered a new solenoid for replacement tomorrow. His reasoning was that some trash may have gotten into the solenoid. I obviously think they've done something wrong with the shift correction kit.. Anybody have thoughts about what might really be wrong? :(

good chance they screwed it up! check balls and check valves are easy screwups and can yield a code like that but seem to work ok. Re-do,get a good manual to do it, or a trusted mech.

Is he charging you for the part and labor?

Thanks for the welcome and fast replies. The shop has a good reputation but I guess anyone can mess-up. There hasn't been any discussion about cost yet. It was 15 minutes before they closed and I was extremely irritated so I just left the truck and came home with my wife so I didn't make a fool of myself. You guys are thinking them same as me, they screwed-up. Hopefully they'll open it up and see the mistake. What's really bad is all the truck needed was the double-lipped o-ring on the reverse servo. I figured everyone loves the Superior Kit so why not use most of it while things are good, silly me

Oh, he said he was ordering a TCC Solenoid.

The TransTec Viton D ring kit makes a tighter fit than the double lip seal. It come with both seals compared to just one.

That's good to know, must have missed that info in all my research on this great site.

That's a bargain. Think I'll order one just in case I ever need it.

You could add this part on your own very easily. All you have to do is drop the pan, and the servo cover with the 4 bolts. The servo will come out.

Yeah, think I'll get one and install at my next tranny service. I have the ATSG manual and I'm capable of doing all the work, I just wanted a pro to do the correction kit, quick and easy...I've learned my lesson. :D

The rest of the story...

As we all suspected the TCC Soleniod did not fix the problem. Although they never would admit they did something wrong while installing the correction kit they did offer me a decent solution. They installed a reman valve body at their cost which was $175.00 + tax. I picked the truck up yesterday and its performing like new. Thanks for all the help.

Glad everything's OK again, IrnBru.

I have the Superior kit in mine, with about 60K miles of trouble-free service now.

There are several mods that have to be done to install it, such as drilling the seperator plate, deleting check balls, changing spool springs, etc.
Care has to be taken when doing all of this, and it would be very easy
to make a mistake......
