2007 Eddie Bauer v6 4.0
2007 Explorer 4.0 Eddie Bauer with 218k just threw P0741 P1000 But still drives fine. It has had a small leak of trans fluid at the radiator/ trans cooler up front so first thing I did is added 1 qt of mercon v to the trans pan. Code still comes on after about 5-10 mins of driving and stays on until the car is cut off. ive driven about 25 miles with added fluid and light still comes on after driving a few mins. It has always made a rough clunk going into reverse so I’ve been told that is the solenoid pack. Trying to decide what I should do next. The car is not worth a lot of money so don’t want to rebuild the trans shop is going to recommend. Any thoughts on what I should do to help pin down the culprit of this code and or opinions on transmission additives or other approaches I could look at fixing it? Thanks in advance

The rough clunk going into reverse could be a problem with the rear differential. If you have excessive play in the driveshaft where it goes into the rear differential, that would indicate that the gears inside are worn and the loose tolerances cause a clunk when the diff has to compensate for the wear.
