I have a V6 2006 mountaineer luxury. The car won't go into D (drive) or reverse. Fluid was a quart low but it has been topped off now. I can manually shift from 1-3 gear and drive it...also once the vehicle reaches a certain speed the tranny can be shifted back into D (drive). Had the codes ran and it came back with a P1700....

I heard it could be the solenoid or one way clutch..not sure how the one way would have went bad considering I take care when switching to reverse etc at a complete stop.

Any ideas?

That DTC is just a generic one saying that the input vs. the output is delayed on the transmission. It could be that there is some debris floating around that is causing the shifting issues... however hard to say since you say it was a quart low and who knows how long it was run that way. It sounds like you need to drop the pan and see if you have particles of metal, etc. floating around in the transmission. It may just be easier to take it to a good transmission shop and let them troubleshoot it.
Edit: After looking at the 5R55S repair manual it states that if you have no other solenoid DTC's (other than P1700) to disassemble the transmission and inspect the direct one way clutch and repair as required.

Did you ever find out what the issue was?

I am having the same problem.
