Hello all. I am contemplating painting the bumpers, wheel well trim and lower door panel trim on my silver XLT. Personally I can not stand the plastic trim color and want to color match it. My question is to all those that have had this done, what was the price? I am going to hit up a few body shops for price quotes but also don't want to get ripped off, so I figured I would ask to get an average ball park figure. Thanks in advance to all who reply!

There are a few people on here that have had it done. At most shops it seems to run in the $1200-$2000 range depending on the color and quality. One person reported getting a hook up for $800 from a friend. The trim needs to be removed, and you want a quality job since it is one of those things that won't look good if it is not done correctly (with the right amount of flex agent, paint match, etc.).

Plastidip may be a way to go, its sold everywhere and you only need to tape/mask the wheels & body from trim all around.
Winter may be tough on plastidip around the trim but sure is easier to deal with than paint, and will give you a good idea what paint will look like if you want paint for long term.
and - you can change the plastidip colors if you want.

Someone on here painted their trim white to match his white Ex,
pics are on here if you search, it looked amazing, and as he said :
one-of-a-kind looking Ex.

Imagine matching your trim color or even using turq blue, red, white, gold, purple, hunter orange...i know it gets nutty with plastidip but it is a cool and flexible option - change the color with the season...fall coming up....

Interestingly, my 2006 Explorer had black cladding on a red explorer. My 2008 and 2010 had total body color bumpers and trim. I actually liked the black look better. I think the black on my 2014 looks good against the Ruby Red body color. I guess everyone has their preferences.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have looked at others vehicles that are on the forums and have seen those that have had the trim painted to match. Personally I do not care for plasti-dip. I have used it in the past for many different projects and personally hate it. I am 100% certain that I want the trim painted/color matched. My question was to those that have done it, what was their cost. I do not want to get ripped off. I do understand the labor involved, pulling all the trim off and such to get a quality job, and the care of the trim after painted is not an issue with me because I am overly careful with my cars. I used to do detailing and reconditioning back in the day. Again I am just looking for a ballpark price so I know what to compare any quotes I get to those.

I was quoted $1600 from one shop in town that has done solid work for me before, and $1200 from a friend. So I think the previous post of $1200-$2000 is your answer. Of course depending on where you live and the cost of living (which impacts labor costs), the price could vary.

Did you end up painting your trim? I think I am going to have my Tri-color white trim painted on my Explorer this summer and curious about your results.
