Painting?

What kind of paint do some of you all use to paint the consoles and stuff like that, I have a red explorer and painted mine with red krylon and it didnt turn out as dark, can you use just any kind of paint, and what is the best way to go about doing it in steps?

Almost all of the parts stores carry DUplicolor paint for vynl and fabric. When I did my Explorer change from tan to gray I used SEM, which is a brand that most body shops and car dealers use.
