I havent been using my parking brake on my 98 X because i know it sticks and i have to mess around with it to get it to come off and it takes some time to get it to. But my friend drove it yesterday and he put the brake on. Now the brakes are stuck on. I got them somewhat off but it is still on somewhat. Is there and easy simple way to fix this or atleast get them off. I cant keep driving like this. Any help would be great. Thanks

I had the same exact problem. Mine e- brakes would stick also, but the push lever would come free. Its the e brake cable. I was told by my mechanic that it is due to lack of use believe it or not. Due to it sticking its caused me to go through 2 sets of e brake pads. So your gonna probably have to replace the cable.

Thats what i thought. Sometimes when i push on the e brake its hard to go down like normal an other times it feel free. Ill try to pop it off and the BRAKE light comes on. Then i have to do it over and over again to get it to finally release the brakes but it doesnt always come all the way off. I just want to fix it so i dont have to deal with it again.

On my truck the cable was fine, but the piece that the cable attached to, that actuated the shoes, was rusty and frozen inplace. I used a wire brush cup in a cordless drill, and cleaned it all of. Bad news is the rotors have to come off to fix this. Your problem may very well be the cable. I'd lube the cable where it goes into the sheath(right near the rear wheel) a while before trying to fix it.
