truck has run just fine since i got it a couple weeks ago eccept for the check engine light coming on...fixed that by cleaning of the maf with some maf spray...anyway drove the ex for about an hour yesterday and when i parked it i noticed the check engine light had come back on...i thought no big deal ill check what it is in the morning...well when i went to start it to go to advanced auto to borrow a scanner it wouldnt start...it turns over fine just wont start as if it isnt getting fuel...checked the inertia switch and it was fine and also checked the fuse for the pump and that was fine...i wouldnt think the pump went bad because it worked fine the day before...usually you notice it going bad...whats the best and easiest way to check if fuel is getting to the motor?

Do you hear the fuel pump kick in when you turn the key to the on position?

Take a plug out and see if its wet.

you may also want to check out the fuel pump relay, under the hood, pwr dist. box

no i dont hear it kick in but i dont think i ever have...how do i check the relay...i can hear a couple clicks coming from the fuse box where the relay is so something is goin on

Well sounds like you either need a fuel pump or a fuel pump relay. You should hear a high pitched whine when you click the key forward.

You may have heard a relay or two clicking on but that doesn't mean the electrical contacts are working properly. There are 5 relays in the power distribution box, all right next to one another. Check fuse #3 under the hood, that's the one for the fuel pump and the RAP module, the fuel pump relay is the relay closest to the mini and maxi fuses in the pwr distribution box.

i went out and double checked and i deffinately hear the high pitched wine you are talking about when i turn the key to on...it only lasts for about a half a second

Yup, thats the fuel pump kicking on.

Did you pull a spark plug to see if its wet?

no ill have to wait till tomorrow morning to do that...should i try and turn the engine over then check?...and if it is wet then what?...and if it isnt?

well i started the truck and let it turn over a few times and then checked the plug in the front right of the motor...it was not wet but it did smell like fuel...whats my next corse of action?

this wouldn't happen to be a sohc engine... :-( anyways, check for spark and then check your compression on each side ( at least one cylinder).... especially if its an sohc.

i believe its the pushrod version...i can check for spark but i dont know how to do compression

you need a compression tester, remove a plug, attach tester and crank the engine "a bit" and the tester logs the compression reading of the cylinder in question.

Anyways, does your check engine light come on when you just turn on your key. IF SO, then does it go out when you attempt to start. IF NOT, then you have a signal timing issue. IF there is NO LIGHT, then you likely have a relay problem (PCM).

Or it could be the inginition pigtail harness....I had a car that it would run fine some times and other times it would just crank and crank and crank and wouldnt start. Then i figured out that if i crank the engine, then go to the half way position between start and run it would stay running...as soon as i let off the key it would stall out. Could check that.

well the motor wont start at all...just cranks...im gonna check the filter tomorrow but i doubt its that...this just dosnt make sense...i hope its not one of those once in a million things ill never figure out

well i pulled the plug on the right front and i am deffinately not getting any spark...bad coil?...whats the best way to trace this back to the trouble maker

did you read my post????

i did and it stays on like usual

OK... while then that's your problem ("stays on like usual").... it has to go out during the start. IF we are talking the "same language", then your problem likely lies in the crankshaft sensor or wiring there abouts toward the PCM. Did you ever get your codes read?... what were they exactly?

yea i had them read...it was one code dealing with bank 2 sensor 1 o2 sensor i believe...something about slow response...every vehicle ive ever had the light has stayed on while i tried to start then turned off when the vehicle actually started...i think
