Hi,

After a bit of head scratching and tear down/rebuild of the parking brake on one of the rears I eventually worked out that cause of this mot fail was the lever which the cable attaches to and which spreads the top of the the two shoes - it was completely seized. Pulled one from a working brake but found it was also incredibly rusted & impossible to move by hand. Will leave them soaking in WD40 and see if this frees them off but anyone had to replace these before and know where to source them (couldn't see them in the cable or parking brake hw kits at rockauto)?

Cheers,

Neil

When mine were seized I got them apart after soaking and then rubbed the pivot and hole with emery paper. Assembled with copper slip and all was well again.

Aha! I wondered what a recording of a parking brake sounded like...:D

There is a complete small parts kit for the rear brakes of an explorer for sale on eBay. About £25 I think. All new parts.

Thanks guys. Like Howard, I found a good soaking and a good clean up did the trick.

yey another little win against the elements :-)
