Probably a stupid question, but I was searching EBAY and noticed this PATS key thing, my family has already lost one of the Explorers keys so it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some backups.

So are these things legit? and how much will the dealer charge me to program it.

Thanks

Its always good to have extra keys. There's a thread on here on how to program the PATS keys.

The dealer charged me $55 for a key, including the blank. You will need two operating keys to be able to program a third yourself.

Yes, they have an electronic unit that plugs into it and programs the PATS to accept the new key.

I only had 1 key when I bought my Explorer, and had the dealer make another for $55. I then bought a blank off eBay and programmed it myself, for a third key.
