04 ford explorer 4.0l nbx flex fuel vin k 4x4 I think I need the latest pcm flash related to possible TSB 5-10-16. I am having a issue with starting my 04 explorer for last 3 days first thing in morning first day rained hard all night around 60-65 deg all night and the day before I filled up at a gas station so was a full tank but I usually add Chevron Techtron every fill up but did not this time and I recently changed oil 10 days ago normally I use mobil 1 fully synthetic the last oil change I used Royal purple synthetic after that oil change it seemed to me when I first cranked it it took longer for oil to quiet engin noticably, it starteled me were I almost turned off car.3 days ago it cranked over stumbled and stalled then I cranked it again and it just cranked like 4 or 5 times then I stopped cranking, it normally starts then. then cranked it again nothing no cranking for the 3rd time so I waited 30 or so seconds then it started just fine at first I though water in gas or maybe fuel pump but I was late for work already so off I went left work around 5 started fine. second day no rain but same type of starting in morning left work at 5 no issues. 3rd day only took 2 times to start so it was not as bad seems to only happen in morning but 65 degrees is not cold soak, right? battery is optima yellow top about 2 years old starter and altinator are original since bought new. what should I start with and if i sould get latest flash I called local dealer 80.00 not a bad price or should I buy a jet chip or super chip is that the latest flash with performance upgrades because 250.00 more for a chip my own flash not bad or do I need the latest flash before jet chip if so ill just get dealer flash.

When is the last time it had a tune up? Plugs wires fuel filter etc? I would start there before going with a reflash.

Thanks for reply its been about a year for plugs and wires any suggestion on most reliable aftermarket wires and plugs or should I go OEM

fuel filter is less than 6 month old

My opinion is that OEM Motorcraft is about as good as it gets. Never had a problem with their plugs OR wires.
