Can someone please help me locate the PCV valve on my Engine. I have done various searches and come up with nothing. Also some people tell me the vehicle has one and some say it doesn't.

The dealer confirmed it does have one but I cannot locate it. Apparently different years have different locations. Service manuals like Haynes and Chiltons are no help either.

Any info would be very helpful and a picture would be great, as I have had a hell of a time trying to find this thing.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Come on someone must know, this thing is really driving me batty.

I'm having the same problem getting errors lean bank 1 & 2 (I think)rough idle on start (maybe vacum leak). I haven't been able to locate the PCV on my 98 4.0 SOHC (manuals are useless). Did you end up finding it??

No I can't find it. I look all over the area's where it is supposed to be but come up with nothing.

Spindle is it on top of the valve cover or behind it? Any pictures.

If I do end up finding it I will post a picture so we can put this to bed once and for all.

On the 02 and up SOHC they are on the backside of the drivers side valve cover, rgt up against the firewall.
The98s may be diff.
Lazz from your sig is hard to tell which engine you have

I also spent some time looking for this phantom valve, It is easier to access from the passenger side, RIGHT behind the valve cover. On mine their was a plastic attachment to something back there that held it place and the hose in place. Your best bet is to feel for it. Its a real PITA to get to and even more of a pain to remove if you cant get enough leverage to pull out the hoses that attach to the T connetor.

Thanks Diddy.. I will fix the signature Spindle.

On my 98 4.0 SOHC it is at the rear of the motor slightly to the right side. On the plastic cover it says 4.0 sohc there are 4 raised lines and two ridges, follow the right side ridge back to the firewall and there are several hoses about 3-4 inches down. It is in the middle of the hoses.

Hope this helps
Scott

Is there any easy way to get to it? Should the plastic SOHC cover be removed to make it easier. I was out looking at my engine yesterday with a flashlight and I could not find it to the rear of the drivers side valve cover I will follow Scott's recommendation and see if it works for me.

This has been one of the most elusive and frustrating things about working on this truck for me. Why do they hide it so far back?

I dont know why they put it way back there. Its ironic how a $2 dollar part that can probably "cure" so many other issues is the hardest to get to! No manual i've seen has a clear illustraton on where it is or how to get to it(for 4.0 SOHC anyway) Trust me its there, you have to "feel" for it. Its not very easy to see from any angle or in any lighting. If you reach back there feel for a 2 small rubber hoses that meet at a plastic T or Y connector. Like I said before the PCV valve itself is seated in a plastic bracket back there. Once you feel it out you won half the battle! Its a pain to get the hoses off if you dont have enough leverage or big hands! Once its out and you have a replacement valve ready to go, be very careful putting it back in that Y connector..it will crack very easily! I couldnt find any Y connector that would fit in any auto store so the last place I wanted to go was the dealer..They wanted to sell me a whole new PCV valve w/the connector and the hoses....$45 dollars! :fire: So I improvised, got a vacum hose T connector and cut a piece of hose to mate the PCV valve and the T connector wrapped it up with a little duct tape to ensure a good seal.

I took the cover off when I did it but that was just to find it. You do not have to take it off but if it is really stuck (like mine original 120,000) then it could help. As I said it is directly behind that right side ridge and you can see it by standing on the right side of the truck.

Just try WD-40 or something like that then twist it around in the hose a bit.

Hey Sparky, got one of those pics for the 302? ;)

I just realized something the above posts say the PCV valve is on the right side behind the air cover which would make it to the left of the spark plug distribution cap. Sparkies picture shows it on the passengers side to the right of the EEC-V control module.

Which side is it on the driver side or passengers side? Lots of those hose configurations look the same back there??

The 98s must be differant, on the 03 SOHC engine the PCV valve is on the backside of the drivers side valve cover.
To remove, you need to first remove the coolant line (yes they are water cooled, why I have not a clue)
Than you just twist the valve to unlock it from the valve cover
