Hi all,

Explorer going in for its 60K Service and I noticed in the Sevice guide, it says amongst other things,

PCV Valve RENEW

4x4 Transfer Box CHANGE OIL

I spoke to Ford who are doing the service, the same time that they fit the OOM12 kit.
They say unless I do lots of offroad, which I dont, i don't have to change the Oil and they couldn't find anything about the PCV Valve and not to worry about it.

Do I believe them and not touch either or shall I get them changed as the service guide says?

All answers appreciated

Thanks in advance

Rob

If you are at all DIY capable then tell them to leave it and do it yourself. Neither job is that hard, just use mercon in the transfer box.

Changing the transfer box fluid is very easy. You just undo the check level plug first, then the drain plug. Let drain, put drain plug back in, fill back up till pours out, wait till stops pouring out, put check level plug back in.

Only tool required in a 3/8 drive. There are torque values for both plugs, but in practice they are not needed.

Fluid wise, the book says WSP-M2C-166 h, i found this code on the back of comma aq3 i think, and used that. You will need 1.4 litres. If you can find a bottle with that code you can use that, or else just getting something mercon approved like howard said.

They quoted me Just under £200 for the fitting of the OOm12 kit and for both front and rear it was £400 so I went for both. Goes in Thursday!!!!

Unfortunately I cant do a lot of things now that I used to because of a lenghty stay in Hospital that left me unable to move very well so its down to Ford to do my stuff!!!!

Just making sure its not essential I have them changed as if I don't have to then I'll keep my money

Thanks for the advice though , greatfully accepted

hi rob how did you get on at ford

Thanks for asking

Got on great, no more horrible rattle on start up, strange keep listening for it though!!!

After days of asking by me they still couldn't find the PCV valve after 2 days of looking (kept telling them where it was after finding where it was from the forum,, so have left that for another day, and they had already changed the Transfer oil on the last service but didn't tell me!!!

Passed MOT without a problem and fully serviced, so all in all a happy man at the minute.

Rob
