Performance chip effects on a 91-94?

I own a 94 explorer and have done the basics including the performance short ram intake and cat back exhaust. I have been investigating the results of performance chips thoughout this fourm and have also emailed several companys asking certain questions about their product. I do not want to spend the money of a higher grade of octane because I'm an 18 year old with limited income and gas prices are rising. Most people who have purchased a chip have a 95 Explorer and up, which makes me wonder if the reason is because the 94 is concidered a more mechanical machine in comparison to the newer models, thus less is controlled by the computer. Could someone owning the 91-94 generation of Exploer who has used a chip explain the power gains the chip produces? Thankyou.

Well I have an Apten Chip, which ive only had for a week. Im very impressed with it so far.

Going with a higher burn will result in better performance.

I cant say how much better my gas mileage is right now, since installing the chip I have a heavy foot!

I've got the Apten-burned Diablo chip. I don't have any numbers (if someone wants to do a free dyno test for me, I'd be up for it ).. I saw some gain in power (minor feel (not part of the "placebo effect", probably same as the rest), and now my RPMs don't hunt around like they used to.. That makes me happy. Also, the chip was custom programmed by Apten to my specific mods instead of a just a generic program..

in reality, for higher octane, you'll only be spending a dollar or 2 more each time u fill up...

Chucky, dont forget, you should make that $1-$2 up. Because the Chip should give you better gas mileage.

Im seeing better gas mileage, but it's hard to see how much better it is, cause im driving faster now. The results of the Apten Chip force me to drive this way now!

So instead of using the regular grade, shelling out the extra $$ will be worth the performance gains since its only $1-$2. Gotcha, thank you.
