Their "pie in the sky" claims should clue in to its worth.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Do you really think $70 is going to bring you that sort of performance gain? You'd be lucky to get .50 HP gain with "snake oil" mods like that.

Step away from that product. The only credible custom tuning comes from credible manufacturers. Try sctflash.com for more info on credibility. It will cost you more than $70 and you'll get less than 50 HP, but their products actually work.

I was expecting these responses to this question. I was just curious as to what people thought. Also, the only problems I've had with my 04 xlt is having the diff replaced (under warranty) at 70k, Bought it in sept. 08 w/70k on the od. also having the blend actuator replaced next week also under warranty. Other than that my truck is the best truck I've ever owned. I love this forum.

Welcome! There are a lot of long time members on this site. People keep coming back even after they sell their rides. Best Exploder site on the web, bar none.

Seriously, if you're looking for custom tuning, do a search for "Henson" (as in Henson Peformance). James is a Site Sponsor and does awesome work. He's a SCT dealer.

i used the Xcal on the explorer, honestly, is the extra HP going to help... NO

the driveability is better, but, in all honestly... its 400$ better spent on something else.

I disagree wholeheartedly. The custom tunes I installed on my '99 made a world of difference in not only driveability (gotta love those custom shift points; stock shifting is oh so soccer mom), but seat of the pants performance is that much better too. Then again, I've become a "high octane" addict now (my fave tunes are of the '91 variety), but with gas prices back down to earth, the "premium for premium" isn't so steep these days.

I beg to differ, much like Celly just said.. the shift points are definitely a great improvement, but I can also feel the truck pull harder than normal when I'm really on the gas.

To make a statement like that seems foolish to me. I think you will find the vast majority of users and noticed real WRHP gains as well as seat of the britches feel.

Put your truck on a dyno and you will see the real numbers.

Who wrote the tune you are using?

Diesels are the ones that will get the big power gains and mileage from a tuner. Some gas vehicles will get some decent enhancements from a tuner, but not like a diesel. I plan on getting mine tuned soon and will report how it goes.

the best route is to get an X3 programmer. We have a sponsor on here who does alot of tunes for alot of people (including me ^_^) The guys name is james henson and his site is www.hensonperformance.com He can hook you up with an X3 programmer and 3 custom tunes for $389. I personally got an 87 an 89 and a 93 tune all street/performance and i love it. The tranny shifts firmer, it has better shift points and definately has more power. all in all definately more fun to drive and worth the investment. His number is on his site (top right corner) just call him up and he'll help you get what your looking for and what you need to do. ^_^

JD, did you even read anyone elses posts? haha

Will tuning your engine get rid of the notourious detnonation ping? If it does then it will be money well spent!

naw for the ping id suggest cleaning ur MAF and seafoaming ur engine. Still say the tune is money well spent tho lol
