2018 explorer sport
hello all. I'm looking for the OEM 18" steel wheels and caps used on the PI. I have a tuned sport I would like to put them on

Find them at a junkyard or order them from the dealer. They're about $120/wheel. The caps are about $75/cap new.

Be sure to do your "shopping around" if you buy them "new" online, as prices can vary greatly! (I once found new Ford OEM steel wheels (DG1Z-1015-A) for as low as $89, on eBay, but that was a few years ago, and it was also a one-off inventory clearance price by that particular dealership).

The DORMAN version (P/N 939-192), however, is the spitting image of the OEM version; it has the same high-quality paint finish as the overpriced Ford OEM's, and are currently available through Amazon for a mere $102.29 each, as of this writing!

Even more importantly, the wheel caps (F87Z-1130-GB) can be found online for FAR CHEAPER than paying full list price on them! (I once got a full set of 4 for only $100, brand-new in the box, on eBay... so do your research before pulling the trigger)!

Lastly, don't forget the special set of 20 "shouldered lug nuts" you'll need, to secure the center caps in place - Ford P/N DG1Z-1012-A (usually overpriced!), or, the Dorman equivalent, P/N 611-199, which are perfectly fine and usually run about $12 for a set of 10.

And, you'll also need to transfer your TPMS sender units from your existing rims to the steelies, at the same time you have your tires swapped, or, have a new set of (4) installed onto the new wheels, so as to keep the TPMS monitoring system happy!

Hope this helps!

Welcome to the Forum.
If you wish to go OEM, the dealer prices are the most expensive. Levittown is a forum vendor and offers members a discount. Original 2013-2019 Ford Wheel, Steel DG1Z-1015-A | Levittown Ford Parts

Was hoping someone had a set and maybe trade for sport OEM wheels
I would check out the Police Interceptor group on Facebook, there are plenty of people selling the steel wheels.

Boy if we were closer I would love to swap wheels with you. If you find your wheels I can ship you the chrome caps. I am looking to swap my wheels out soon.

Hey guys, I am new here. Great forum! I have a 2017 Explorer Platinum, I just bought 4 interceptor rims and centre caps, but I need the 20 lug nuts. I found 20 pc for a decent price; they come from a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport. Are they the same DG1Z-1012-A? The vendor doesn't know, he is an hour away, and I would like to avoid driving there for nothing. Attached is the photo; is there anything else I could check to make sure they are the right ones? thanks, Steve.

Hello:

The correct "shouldered" lug nuts for all Gen. 5 Explorer years have an OEM Ford part number of DG1Z-1012-A. They are 1/2" x 20 threads, and can be overpriced thru a dealership.

However, if you want brand-new ones, the Dorman # 611-199 lug nuts, which can be bought in boxes of 10, were as low as $12.95 per box (at my local independent auto parts dealer), or about $20 a box on Amazon.

BTW, I'm not seen those caps like you show in your photo, unless they were used on older versions of the Ford Ranger? The ones I've seen on the PIU's are the OEM Ford # F87Z-1130-GB. I'm also running a set of these beefy-looking wheels, along with the aforementioned Ford caps... but I first prepped them properly and then painted them a gloss black, for a different look for my wheels (see photo).

Hope this helps!

Welcome to the Forum Steve.
Here is a picture of the part number you mentioned. It looks to be the same.

Is this the setup you'll have?

Looks like you posted while I was in the process of doing the same. BTW, that is a great looking picture!

Thanks, Peter!

(BTW, I've always insisted that my tire dealer use adhesive wheel weights on the inside of the rim, so as not to have the usual standard wheel weights showing on the outside of the black rim... the police don't care, but I do! Ha!)

The picture was actually of the wheel on the 2014 MKT I once had. They were then transferred to the 2017 Platinum and sold with it at lease end.
They were my 'winter' tire wheels.

They look awesome in black, Bob!
No, Peter, my hub caps look different, they have a kind of star shape in the middle... but the rims look the same.

Although I've never used these flat-caps personally, I have rarely seen them on an occasional PIU around here... but, most of those that I've seen are of the "star" style.

However, these flat caps should also fit just fine, using the steel wheel (and, most importantly), the same shouldered lug nuts!

awesome! and I have 4x 245/60 R18 fairly new winter tires from my old Ford Edge, I can use them with these rims on my explorer, right? I can't see any tire sizes on the 2017 Explorer brochure, just the 18" and 20" rim sizes.

I don't see why you couldn't... the "police" size is 245/55R18, so you're at pretty much the same with your set from your Edge.

The 2020 explorers have 245 60 18 tire. I was told the 2020-24 PIU has a different size wheel caps and different lug nuts. I have a 2020 PUI. Just wondering if the black steel wheels from 2013-2019 fit the 2020. Why the hell did Ford change the wheel caps n lug nuts. They look the same. But no way. I recently got new Dorman lug nuts from Rock Auto on clearance. If anyone looking.
