PIAA 520 installation PROBLEM! help please!

today, with my friends, i _tried_ to hook up my PIAA 520's. So we got most of it figured out. We used a member project as our guide and hooked them up to the purple wire w/blue line on it. Everything was hooked up and the green switch light was on, so we knew we had power. Lights didn't go on. We tried and tried to figure out what was wrong, but with no avail. But asfter some figiting we found some sort of result.... my back vent window went down!! lol. so we figure we tapped the wrong wire.

So my question is: what wire are we supposted to actually tap? Also, we couldn't find all the bolts for the dash to get it off, so it was a pretty big problem. Where are the bolts located?

I am not sure if I can help or if you have already cured your problem.

My idea would be to find a power wire from the fuse box, preferably one that is on only when the vehicle is running. Run this wire to a switch on the dash and then to a relay under the hood. Run battery power to the relay and then to the lights.
Ground everything, again make sure that everything is grounded... even the relay and the lights need to be grounded.
For an indicator lamp, if you use one, run the power from the backup-light side of the relay, back inside the cab to the indicator lamp, this will indicate that the power is coming from the relay; could help if things don't work right the first time. An indicator lamp on backup-lights is good just in case the switch is turned on during the day. My back-up-lights have a blinking red LED, from Rat Shack, tends to draw my attention.
You did say that you were going to connect the lights to your existing backup system, good idea but always have a switch to shut things down and a rely to control higher use of amperage. An indicator lamp can still be hooked up to the backup light side of the relay controlled by the existing backup light system.
