I need to get new wipers. I currently have the Bosch wipers on and they worked pretty well. They lasted for a year and a half.

I am curious to hear what people think about the PIAA wipers. Are they worth the cost? I would really appreciate it if people that actually have them would reply to this. It would be better if you have had them for at least a season too.

I have searched through the old threads and there is not one that describes what people think about this product and I think that it would be a good resource for those thinking about getting them.

Thanks for you help....

Dave

I had them on my F-150 for about a year and a half. Thought they worked well as advertised. The only thing I didn't really like about them was they tended to freeze when it got really icy and not work very well, but then again I bought the Bosch Micro Edge's to replace them, and they do the same thing.

Do those "winter" wiper blades (with the covered sides) do better in the ice and snow?

Or is that a gimmick

I think its probably just a gimmick...

I used winter blades for the first time last year and was amazed at the difference. Chicagoans dump so much salt on the roads that your windshields get a thick coating whenever you head out. It drives me crazy, so I use my blades all the time. Anyway, the winter blades never froze up, and always held tight against the windshield. If I can find one small enough, this year I'll put one on the rear as well.

Best wipers I've ever had. Well worth the money IMO

I have them on the Ranger, and they are excellent. No noise, even cleaning and no streaks. I especially like that they leave a thin film of silicone on the windshield so water beads off in light rain.

Thanks for the replies...

Matt, why did you switch to the Bosch's? I thought that you were a rep (or some other paid cronie :D) for PIAA.
Do you like the Bosch's better?

On a side note... anyone have a problem with their wipers making noise once the windshield has only a little bit of water on it (like in a drizzle or dense fog)? No matter what brand I use this always happens. I also had to replace my windshield once and it still happened on the new one. Any suggestions? Is there a way to lessen the pressure that the wipers have on the windshield?

Thanks,

Dave

The PIAA's are excellent! I have them on my wifes VW. Winter in Alaska tends to put a lot of grime on the window. The winter blades are good for keeping ice from building up on them. They dont clean as well though. If you keep your windshield good and warm it will be O.K. If it gets REALLY cold then not much of anything really works!

My 2 cents.

The real problem with blades not working well in severe winter conditions is that the rubber gets hard, making them not wipe as well.

I have the Bosch's, they're okay but don't work all that long. I'm going to replace them with the PIAAs on all the cars soon.

I have tried virtually all the blades available and can't see a nickle's worth of differenc in any of them.

BigDave, maybe if your blades are noisily skipping across the windshield, it is a problem with the wiper arm itself. The driver's side does that on mine...I am going to switch the arms around and see what happens.

I run Bosch Micro Edge Excel. Other than the one side skipping, they seem to work fine, but honestly I don't notice any advantage over the Anco's that I used to have. Haven't tried PIAAs. I have not seen PIAAs in any store around here so I would have to order them out.

Quite honestly, we got a big snow storm, my PIAA's weren't working, and I thought I would try the Bosch's to see if they worked better, but they didn't really work much better. I think I prefer the PIAA's, but I've got the bosch's on there now so I'll wait for a while to put another set of PIAA's on.

Well, if there really isn't any difference between the Bosch's and the PIAA's, I think I'll stick with the Bosch's for now, simply because of the cost. When I get a job (that lasts more than 6 months) I'll try switching.

I'll also have to fiddle with the wiper arms and see if I can adjust how hard they press on the glass.

Thanks for the replies, they helped alot!

Dave

Any new thoughts and opinions on the PIAA wiper blades?

I use Teflon coated winter blades year round (including the rear). I get a LOT more life out of them than "regular" blades and they're also less likely to ice up when the going gets rough. I buy mine at "Canadian Tire" (their house brand), which won't help most of the folks on this site.

Get them Al. If they're more expensive, then they must be the best. You seem to like the "best". ;)

Good info, especially since Winter is just around the corner.
