Looks great!! I wish my truck has the black factory tint instead of the bronze tint. I've been looking everywhere, trying to match it, never found a perfect match.

OFF THE SUBJECT A LITTLE

I know the SOHC and V8 are both gusty engines but which one is faster 0-60. V8 has the torque but the SOHC is lighter

they say the v6 sohc is faster but i dont believe it. i believe the v8 with the filtercharger is faster.. or at least ive raced a bunch of sohc and ive killed them

wow, that limited is just like mine. Is yours AWD? I'm in S. FLA too.

My factory tint is bronze though.

Finally, I'm not sure if the V8 is quicker than the SOHC V6, but I know that the V6 isn't gonna take the 130 HP nitrous injection that my V8 likes!!!

I think they are about the same 0-60 when completely stock in the same body style and same driveline, but the V8 clips the SOHC in the 1/4 mile becasue of the torque advantage. The V8 is also a lot easier/safer to upgrade.

Sweet! Is that factory tint or did you have it done? Looks really nice.

Looks nice!

Here in PA it's illegal to have the Windshield and front windows tinted..... I guess there are reasons...but it escapes me....because a passenger in the rear could have a gun just as much as the driver....so.... anyway it looks great

0-60 times:

SOHC: 8.1 secs
5.0: 8.8 secs

these are the times for 1998 explorers, which are probably the same, if not, very close to 1997 explorers.

im just glad i have a 4.0 SOHC :P

no offense...but id rather have the v8 any day over the sohc. think of all the problems the sohc has had..chain tensioner,, no supercharger..hmmmm let me think

I recently looked at the 0-60 times in the back of a motortrend, maybe car and driver.

SOHC=8.4 sec
5.0 =8.4 sec

This is because the SOHC is geared lower because it has a 5spd auto as opposed to the V8's 4spd.

I don't remember the exact 1/4 times, but I do remember the V8 was .2 sec quicker.

8.8s for a V8 is for the AWD (extra drag).
The 2wd V8 is 8.4 seconds which is the same as a 4dr 2wd SOHC.
A Sport is significantly lighter so it probably does 8.1s.

Now if Ford only made a V8 2wd Sport that would smoke many a vehicle... :-)

Let me restate that a little.

According to Motor Trend:
01 Sport 4x4 SOHC 8.4s 16.5@83mph
00 XLT 2x4 V8 8.4s 16.4@83.7

Assuming the 2dr and the XLT are the same weight (very close because of extra length on one and 4x4 on other) this shows a very close race. Also consider that a 4x4 sport most likely has 4.10 gears.

So for a 4dr V8 and a 4dr SOHC (both with 2wd or 4wd for weight comparison) the 0-60s should be about the same. A V8 weighs about 100lbs more but it also has 10 more HP and more torque whuch makes up for the weight.

In the quarter mile torque makes more of a difference (especially when pushing a 2 ton brick through the air at 60+ mph) so the V8 should edge out the SOHC slightly if everything else is equal.

In conclusion, assuming everything else is equal (body type, driveline, gears) the V8 vs. SOHC shootout should turn out pretty equal. So it comes down to driver preference. It's obvious that a smaller body style w/ less weight will beat the bigger bodied truck. Once again I return to the V8 Sport idea...

Now, since I own an AWD V8 I have to come up with something to boost my ego. Therefore, I challenge any of you with a 2wd to a drag race in the pouring down rain...

Quad...I don't think your tranny would take it either!

2001ExpSport,

my tranny has held up perfectly. there has been no slippage or problems. I made sure that I put the shift kit in the tranny before I stepped up the nitrous. The tranny bangs the gears with authority at WOT on nitrous.

Cool! I bet that sucker pushes you back into the seat something fierce...

yeah, it launches like a mutha!!! with the AWD, there is only a little tire chirp.

I used a g-tech meter to measure the 0-60. I am not sure of the accuracy of the g-tech, but it reported a 0-60 of 5.7 seconds.

Just the other week, I raced a 99 mustang GT from 0-60.

when I let off at 60 mph, the GT was 3 cars behind me!!
