quick question...did they rub at all in the front without the coil springs in but with the spacers?

Yes they did rub a bit without springs but with spacers. Not really that bad though, not bad enough to where you couldnt drive it for a while until you could get springs. I still need rear springs also, if I flex on a bump or something it hits a little. Normal everyday driving it doesnt rub though.
I think if you're considering 285's you would be pleased with the results.

Hey guys... I'm still bouncing around on the road like a rodeo bull :( Honestly, there is no diff between the QL and Coilsprings. And actually, you can do 3" w/ CS and only 2.5" with QL. They just don't work one on the other... Jutgin, was the price of your tires reasonable? Did anyone give you a hard time about buying them (some stores and Exs don't mix)?

Hey Donner, I'm glad that there isnt much difference because I had just got my springs! I think the price was very good for 285's, I paid 620 for everything included out the door. The guys that work where I went are 4wd guys, they were just as excited to mount their first set of 33's on a 3rd gen ex as I was. They had the whole shop gathered around! haha!
Just keep in mind that you need springs all the way around and I haven't tried mounting without spacers so I'm not sure but you probably would need them.

That's hilarious! Everybody wants to see the 3rd gens lifted :) They're excited around here too because we go from being stock to sweet! Nobody has seen a 3rd gen lifted, except for the few showing up now, w/o a body lift or a gimmick...

Keep the music turned up :)

dude your explorer looks SOO sick! so those spring lox suck that bad? cuz i have a 93 and i have the stock springs on still, and they are pretty shot as it is, and i dont want them starting to crack if the spring lox suck lol

jutgin,
Nice truck man, I like what you've done with it.
I'll be ordering my coil springs in a couple weeks, I'll post pics when lifted.
I'm also thinking on modifying a ranger body lift in the near future to work for my ex.
Keep up the good work guys, we'll spread the bug soon enough,
LIFT EM IF YOU GOT EM!!

Ben.

LOOOVE the paint scheme...how is the trim paint holding up?

LOOOVE the paint scheme...how is the trim paint holding up?

It's holding up great. Krylon fusion really does stick to plastic well. You should try it!

Cool. My GF has an 02 with that plastic all the way around it. Im going to try to convince her to let me paint it...it looks horrible. Did you clean it off with anything before you applied it?

Everything comes off pretty easy.
I took it all off before painting.

I have a Metallic Estate Green 03 Explorer... what you have done is making me seriously jealous.

You took off the plastic running boards and simply painted them and reinstalled them?? or are they completely off?

I never would have thought of painting my stock rims... but you definitely have me thinking. I am about to put some 245/75/16 BF Goodrich Mud Terrains on and you have me thinking about some other changes as well.

Altogether, beautiful looking truck.

Thank you! I actually took my running boards completely off. I taped everything else off and spray painted them right there on the truck. Honestly you could go up to 265's easy without any lift or anything. Hope you do it and we would love to see pics!

OK... you win.

I just phoned my buddy and put in a order for 265/75R16 BF Goodrich Mud Terrains. They should be here in a week or so. I have entrusted 750$ in this site that these tires will fit my stock explorer... so I have my fingers crossed!

Once they are installed I will see how I like the look, and perhaps order some 2" coil springs for my front.

I'm sure they will. I say that becuase the only thing I had on mine was the wheel spacers when I mounted my 285's. I did not have the lift springs when I mounted them. Worst case scenerio you might pull back or trim a little under the fender well. You are gonna feel the lift from the bigger tires!

looks nice jutgin keep up the good work

loks sharp.. good work.. keep em clean and maybe clean real good once in a while and hit em with some more clear.. just to keep em nice..

Jutgin!!

I was wondering if you could do me a huge favour and post close-up pics of your painted rims. I am thinking of doing the same thing myself, however I am fairly picky. They look amazing from far, but I am wondering if you can tell they are painted up close or not.

Maybe you could just explain how they look...

Thanks

Cruising some trails this weekend.
