I'm in the process of replacing my solenoid block and transmission filter when this pin dropped out of the transmission. It's about an inch long and seems to have fallen from the driver's side. I was pulling out the transmission filter when it fell out. I think it may fit in a small hole right next to where the gasket is on the drivers side of the pan. Is this where it goes or do I have bigger issues?

Try and contact "Swetrid" or "Tower". They know transmissions well.

Hi big A, I can tell you exactly where this pin goes and what it does. Locate the rotary shaft on the side of the transmission which puts the transmission in drive, reverse and natural. There is a groove machined into this shaft that prevents it from rotating out of the transmission. There is a hole in the transmission casing facing the ground where this pin slides into to keep the shaft in place. If you look at your original gasket you will find a tab that extends out to keep this shaft in place.

When I first dropped my pan that pin fell out and I did not notice. About a week later the shaft which changes transmission modes worked itself out of the transmission enough not allowing me to put the truck in drive.

I've borrowed the picture from the solenoid replacement thread. I hope this is what you are referring to. That's where I think it fell out of.

yes, you are correct. In that picture I believe the pin is still in the hole.
