pinion problem need help asap!!!

I just bought a 91 exploder it has a 8" skyjacker lift and 38" swampers my problem is on the way home from where I bought it, it started making a very loud humming noise so I checked the rear driveshaft and noticed that the pinion was very lose (in and out play) so I took the gears out of the carrier and found nothing wrong so I put it all together installed new crush sleve but after tighteing the pinion was still loose now I've heard of adding shims to it but I don't know how any help would be great it is my daily driver thanks

Are you sure you have the right parts in there? Cauz if you crushed the sleeve to spec (like 200 something foot pounds or whatever), then everything should be tight. Maybe the wrong roller tapered bearing set.

I'm not sure if I even had it tight enough to crush the sleve but I did notice that the orignal sleve that was in it looked just like the new one I baught from autozone, shouldn't look different cuz it was already installed?I did use a 5ft breaker bar to tighten the pinion nut but I have no torque wrench that big to know for sure
