Pioneer sub

I'm building a new box for my sub, and needless to say. Something happened and its not as deep as I meant it to be (bad math ) I'm trying to fit a pioneer ts-w253r sub in it. But theres a black plastic cover on the back, I can remove it and the sub will fit. Will this affect the sound?

Your other option would be to build another sub ring and stack them thus giving you more depth. You would have to ensure it seals properly and that the face of the sub has clearance so it doesnt hit any anything.

What is a sub ring? And I've built the box so the outside of the sub sits level with the box. I'm not a fan of the subs sitting on the outside of the box, just dosen't look as clean

A sub ring is like a spacer that fits under the lip of the woofer so it fits in the encloser (kinda like adding a bunch of washers to a bolt thats to long). But from ur responce I take it u won't want that.

Oh, def not. I got it flush with the box and I don't want that to change. Does anyone know if I need that plastic thing?

Just in case anyone else needs to know, that plastic thing makes no difference in the sound

The plastic magnet covers are just cosmetic pieces, mostly used to sell a sub on looks, but it also makes the back of the sub look nicer in plexiglass windowed enclosures or other installations where the back of the sub shows.

You're probably better off not having it on there anyway if it's already been removed, chances are it could vibrate off or otherwise loosen with the sub installed, and you'd have to remove the sub again to take it out.

It's usually better to have some vent space behind the sub magnet, but if it fits it fits.

You might try using a thicker foam ring between the sub lip and the enclosure to seal it, which would give just a tiny bit more room as well.
