what is this option, can the delay be adjusted? why the delay? can it be adjusted?
Do you have a PIU or an ST as shown in your profile?what is this option, can the delay be adjusted? why the delay? can it be adjusted?
100% correct. The key fob will do the same as the overhead button, starting the timer for you to manually open the door.Do you have a PIU or an ST as shown in your profile?
If you have a PIU, I believe that there is 45 second timer that starts when the liftgate button is pressed during which time you can open it. I believe it is for the safety of the officer/driver. There is no mention of a remote capability for the liftgate in the PIU, again for safety reasons I'm guessing.

My '18 doesn't. Wish it did.The idea is that police keep things in the back that need to be secure...all FPIU have this. (At least '16 and later)
Should be a button in the overhead console...My '18 doesn't. Wish it did.
Yep. Already have Forscan, found that setting, however I'm pretty sure I'm not wired for that switch and I don't know if it would be "plug-and-play" so to speak, or if I'll have to splice in somewhere.I have seen this before. There is some option code that will add wiring and that overhead console for the upfitters. (folks who install police gear after vehicle production) The vehicle comes with a very basic overhead console which the installers remove and replace with a police specific console made my one of the police equipment company's. Easiest Fix, Download Forscan, request the free 2 mos license to activate it. Be sure to order (amazon) the proper usb cable so you can connect to your vehicle's data connector *under the dash below the steering wheel*, and in the settings under BCM, you will find the tailgate listed. Use the drop-down menu and turn it 'on'. This will then allow the tailgate to be opened and closed like any other door. (ie: when you lock the truck, the tailgate locks. when you unlock your vehicle, the tailgate unlocks and can be manually opened). Nothing will ever open it automatically since the mechanical parts to perform that task aren't on your vehicle.
Haven't looked up there yet to check. It came with that 45 second option disabled, though I know it existed from my research. I'd like to get the switch and enable it in forscan because I plan on securing the rear storage area due to the amateur radio equipment I'll be installing. I just need to dig around. I might after the F1 race is done today. 19 more laps.Sorry, it's Sunday morning....I am a bit groggy still. What you have done in Forscan to activate the tailgate so it unlocks and locks along with the other doors, is best you can do if you don't have the overhead console switch. I should have mentioned, my truck HAS the overhead switch, and before my changes in forscan, the only way to open the tailgate was to activate the switch and then open the gate from the outside within 45 seconds. Despite my changes, that switch still functions the same. It does not release the liftgate by simply pulling it. All the Forscan change did was give me the added feature of being able to open the liftgate from the outside handle, without pulling that overhead switch.....as long as I have unlocked the vehicle with the OEM keyfob. Prior to the change, to open the liftgate, I had to enter the vehicle, and pull the overhead switch, THEN go back outside to the tailgate and open it manually. This just saves me the step of having to trigger that switch. I have been out in the driveway, without the keys to my truck, (while it was unlocked). Since I can't unlock the truck with the fob, I have to use the originally method of pulling the switch to start the 45 second countdown. So now I am wondering, if your truck doesn't have the switch.....how do you access the tailgate and how do you even know there is a 45 second timeout? I'll also guarantee that if you pulled down your current overhead console, that tucked in the headliner is the pigtail for that switch. My truck has all sorts of harnesses that are for options my truck doesn't even have (being a PIU). Anyway, happy Sunday, and I hope you figure it out so it will do what you want it to do.
