I was telling one of my motorhead friends about the headers I ordered, he said if I don't watch the exaust temp I could melt my cat. Is this true? I know a few of you guys have borla headers on the 4.0L's, so can you help me out? Also I would be running the stock exhaust system with the headers for a while. Thanks a lot guys.

Jim

Well, I guess a cat COULD crawl up under your truck and fall asleep and get melted but I never really considered this to be a problem. Dead Link Removed

But seriously, I have never heard of such a problem. I ran a stock exhaust with my Borlas for several months and still use the stock catalytic converter today...

Hi Jim,
I can't help you directly on this question but maybe I can help you get answers easier. Many of the members here have a lot of knowledge but they are also busy people too. Some of them don't have the time or interest to open every single one of the posts on this entire board and only home in on those that they can relate too. Some weeks I can look at a large amount of the posts. Other weeks my workload negates that and when I can squeeze time in to go to this site I'll just scan the forums and ignore all the posts exept those whose subject headings interest me.

All I am saying is that there is a chance that someone who can help you may not open a generic post like "Please answer this question" when a subject heading like "Will a header melt my cat?" may get some hits from many who have installed headers and can relate their experiences.

Just my extry peso of advice, and we all know what that's worth....

Gerald ole' Buddy,
Very well put. thank you. Dead Link Removed

Jim,
Ditto to what Gerald said. Please use a more appropriate title. It helps us all, and especially you to get a better responce. A lot of people won't open a post like that. Thank you for your understanding. Dead Link Removed

Now as to your problem. I have had headers on other vehicles, and have never seen this happen. As soon as that damn lift comes out, I plan on adding a set of headers, since they are now available for the SOHC. I have no worries about my cat burning up.

Sorry guys I just got kinda sick of my questions sitting around and not getting any replies. I thought it might get a few people to read my question. Thanks for telling me though.
