hay guys, i posted a bit ago, but didnt get a response.

after talking to my buddy over, i believe i have figured out what i need to do.

basicly, i have the audiophile system in my XLT. 6disc w/ sub-amp.

i want to leave all that alone, if possible, and install my own amp/subs.

I was told that i might be able to connect the input the new amp from the rear factory sub, is that correct?

if so, i have a few questions...

1 - is there a how-to remove the head unit on a 04? i saw the sticky, but it talks about removing the whole dash, which i dont know if i need to do. im mostly concerned about the beauty piece around the HU

2- is there a way to do the install without going into the dash IE- Be able to have the power-on lead connected to some ACC wire thats not in the dash? i dont know.

any help would be much appriciated.
thanks in advance
Benjamin

H/U removal

If this is the type of bezel/plastic around h/u that you have, you only need to remove that plastic. Is this the type?

Yes sir, thats what i have..
Thanks so much for responding, im glad to know that we have an explorer community..

How easy is it to remove without braking it? :)

Very easy... the fellas here showed me. I used to just wonder what and how... you just use something like a putty knife, and slowly pry the thing off from the seam. It's pretty intimidating, because it'll see like it's going to break... but as told to me, there are about 6 points in there that attach - they just pull out, gently, one by one, but use a little force too.. once the bezel is off, you should see a bolt and a screw on each side of the radio... just remove those and you my friend are done - with that part. The other questions, I have no answers... Make sure you start on the side when you're removing the bezel...

Donner,
Thank you Very much for your explanation and help, it is intimidating becuase it looks like it may break easy, but i will just take my time, and be genital.

I dont want to remove it untill i know exactly how i should wire this thing up.
Are people running leads to the rear speakers? or can i just tap into the sub leads?
i cant wait to install this in the our new ford, although im wondering if its a bit much too.

I put the system together for my suburban project truck, which unfortunity we are going to sell now.

its a kenwood class-d 1700watt, pushing 2x 12s @ 1800watt. running 2x 2farad caps.
it was powered by a kenwood HU, with kenwood speakers all the way around, and it just pounded in that big ol burban.. so im prolly going to need to install some dynamat with this new install into the explorer.

I been looking at that AVIC doubble din unit to install maybe in a couple months. but im not sure just yet.

any ideas, comments, pointers are welcome here, i need all the advise i can get.
